I lived in DuPont, before moving to Oakbrook in Lakewood. I lived there for 9 years and loved every minute of it. I loved watching people walk, run and bicycle alone or with their family during warmer months. It's a very active community. Some people call it "Pleasantville" because of it's near-like perfect look. The HOA takes great pains to make sure all the common areas are well cared for.
It is a military-centric community due to its proximity to the nearest base Joint Base Lewis McChord (10 min), but it has many other residents who are nonmilitary. This small town contains an Intel campus, State Farm Headquarters, Girl Scout Community Headquarters and an Amazon Fulfillment Center.
Some things to love about DuPont are its relative newness, it's HOA which is affordable but keeps the area beautiful, its tight-knit community and its close proximity to bigger shopping. So, it has a small-town feel but a close proximity to things that one may need:
15 minutes to large grocery shopping (or Base BX / Post PX): Lacey Safeway, Target, Lowes OR Lakewood Safeway, Target, Old Navy, etc.
20 minutes to Tacoma Mall in Tacoma.
10 minutes to Steilacoom Fresh Picked Market, the summer Farmer's Market (Wed). 15 minutes to Lakewood's Summer Farmer's Market (Tues).
DuPont has it's own General Store that you can buy odds and ends as well as deli food to go.
Also, DuPont has it's very own liquor store as well: DuPont Cigar & Liquor.
Favorite Sushi: iSushi. I tend to be a sushi snob and when I found this place, it was pure heaven. Not too many great sushi places around. You must give this place a try.
Favorite Mexican: Viva Mexican Restaurant
Favorite Pizza: Many in DuPont may hate me for saying this, but despite the size of Farelli's and its reputation, I really like the small pizza guy better; Bruceki's. I'm a sucker for small businesses, true, but this pizza once made me drive 20 minutes to meet the delivery person half way because they didn't deliver to Lakewood!
One of the great things about DuPont is its 13 miles of paved trails. It also has a hidden beach that not many people know about that goes out to the Puget Sound.
Schools in DuPont, WA are in the highly rated Steilacoom School District.
Our kids have fond memories of growing up in DuPont. Never a lack of friends, things to do or someone looking out for them. The 4th of July, Halloween, and the bi-annual yard sale events were the most fun things that everyone looked forward to. It was a city-wide participation which made it so engaging.
